Thermostat or Radiator Valve?

The battle of the room temperature takes place in many households, especially amongst siblings! Some like it hot, some like it cooler…so are thermostats at war with radiator valves, or can they live happily together?

Thermostats are there to control your household boiler, whilst radiator valves are designed to control the flow of water through your individual radiators. The thermostat controls your home's temperature, once it achieves the desired temperature set on the thermostat, the boiler will go off until the room temperature drops again.

Radiator valves can be used as extra controls to moderate the temperature of each individual room, meaning you can set some rooms to be cooler than others, saving energy and money if some people like their rooms a bit cooler during the wintery months. When the temperature in an individual room rises above what's set on the radiator valve, it stops the water flow for that individual radiator. However the boiler will still be on to heat other rooms, but it will use less energy.
